WTF is Pikliz?

SCROLL TO DISCOVER

Avocado slices and fried plantains atop a bowl of rice and beans. A jar of Pikliz is also seen on the table

Koreans have kimchi, Germans have sauerkraut,

Haitians have Pikliz.

Meet your new favourite condiment: a spicy slaw that’s packed with cabbage, carrot and fiery scotch bonnet pepper. Pikliz delivers that island heat without the vacay price tag.

Island Taste, Northern Touch

Manmi (n): the Haitian Creole word for mother; can also be used to address more senior women who you’re not related to.

Manmi was born in Port-au-Prince and now lives in Canada. She prepares pikliz for her family as a way to pass on the traditions of her island heritage.
